SERVICES
I work with students at all stages of their physics education.• Weekly or biweekly sessions
• Ad-hoc sessions (eg exams, finals)
• Test Prep (AP, SAT-II, college placement, Introductory)
• AP Physics C (E&M, Mechanics), AP Physics I and IIAs a retiree, my schedule is flexible and it is easy to find a time that works for you.
Approach
When I tutor, I typically spend an hour with the student but encourage them to check in with me with brief questions during the week. For ongoing students, I am typically available evenings for quick questions without charge.Since COVID I have been utilizing both Zoom and Google Meet to tutor. I use a drawing tablet and PowerPoint, so the instruction is truly real time. The notes from our meeting are saved as a PDF, emailed to the student, and shared on a google drive for their access. Students typically either use their phone to send me pictures of their assignments, share a screen on Zoom, or upload them.I have found that using the tablet and generating real time notes has been a very resource for the students because they have a complete set of notes from our sessions.
Background
Having taught AP physics, senior level college prep and honors physics in addition to ninth grade introductory physics, I have lots of experience with the problem sets and projects that are assigned in physics classes and have developed student centered approaches to both solve and understand them.I continue to be a contributing member of the professional community. Just a phone call or an email away, I can help you or your student do their best when it comes to the physics curriculum.Outside of my love for physics I was also and active member of the youth soccer community. I served on my town’s soccer board including as President and as a BAYS (Boston Area Youth Soccer) director for almost 25 years, including as President from 2009 to 2011.Since retirement, I also volunteer at my local food bank and run a mentoring program for students who will be the first in their family to attend college. I am also an American Canoe Association certified Coastal Kayak Instructor.

“It was lovely having you as my tutor this year, and I definitely would not have been able to do as well without you. I thought that the format worked really well for me and focused on my needs.”
-9th Grade Student, 2020-2021“I want to thank you for an amazing year. I also want to thank you for never giving up on me and always being there when I was really struggling. The class was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and I could not have been as successful as I was this year without you.” -B.S. (AP physics)“I just wanted to say thank you for your help this year. It was very challenging with all of the zooming and the crazy world we were living in but I really appreciated your help in physics. The tutoring really helped me and I am able to walk away from a very hard class with the grade I wanted so thank you. I like the format a lot. I found it helpful that I could send questions and we could just work on what I was struggling with. I also like the ability to go over a topic before I had a quiz, and to have notes that were like a mini study guide.” -9th Grade 2020-2021“This has definitely been the most enjoyable science class that I have taken ….. (as well as the hardest science course I’ve ever taken.). I will miss time spent trying to understand physics with your kind and supportive guidance. …. Thank you for going out of your way to help me succeed and for always being supportive and encouraging.” -D.C. (AP Physics)“Thank you for everything this year …. you were so helpful and patient. You always took the time to make sure I really understood the material.” -K.L. (Senior Physics)“Thank you very much for supervising my independent study so I could take the AP Physics E&M exam. You were always there when I had questions and were always able to explain the problem and the solution in way that made sense.” A.M. (Independent Study)"Thank you so much for going out of your way to be available to me with physics. Your dedication to every one of your student (and even those who are not your students) is amazing.” J.K. (AP Physics)
